6. This semester my class worked with multiple mediums but my favorite overall was definitely clay. This was my favorite medium because I felt like I had to much freedom to create anything I desired. I had countless ideas of what to sculpt and I chose to make a Maruchan Instant Ramen cup. A technique I learned that was successful was to treat the wet clay gently. Mastering this made my clay easier to shape into the cylindrical cup shape. Keeping my clay wet overnight also helped me out a lot. By doing this I could constantly change mistakes I made on my work I made a previous day. Using and taking advantage of these techniques made this project my favorite.
3. My portfolio may show my finished projects from this semester, but It doesn't represent the time I spent working on the projects or the things I learned. For example, my 100 pen and ink texture squares took hours of thinking creatively even though it seems simple. Another example of my portfolio not being an accurate representation of my development was the watercolor final project. This project was very different because we had to use layers of masking fluid. This was brand new to me and portfolio does not show how unsure I was on how my final artwork would turnout. Essentialy my portfolio is only photos and brief descriptions, but this cannot fully depict my semester. I have learned so much about many different mediums. I developed in my creativity ability in this class and that is something that my digital portfolio cannot completely show.
7. I feel like my most unsuccessful project was my self portrait. I feel this way because I don't think I did my very best on it because drawing a picture of myself is not a very fun thing to do. I liked drawing the brick background and getting the colors right on that, but when it came to drawing myself, I think it came out as a failure. I spent too little time on my face and hair and think I should have focused more of my time on that. If I were to do it again, I would want to draw someone elses face because then I wouldn't be as nervous if I messed up a facial feature. But if I couldn't draw someone else, I would start on drawing my face and work outwards instead of the other way. I think if I did this, My project would have a drastically improved turnout. That is why I think my self portrait was the least successful project I did.
1. I would describe my artistic style/perspective to be one that is natural with darker tones. I think this because a lot of my projects turn out darker normally and I like how natural themes can look good artistically. I would describe success as an artist would be self satisfaction with a final piece of work and enjoying most of the process making it. The most rewarding part of being an artist is working hard on a project, being satisfied with the outcome, and maybe receiving a couple comments. My most important skills I use when creating work is thinking how every little adjustment to a project will affect the artwork as a whole. This always help my final work have a good flow of texture and/or color. The most significant thing I learned from art-making is to create to something that you would enjoy making. I learned from many peers that when you make something you do not like, it does not turn out very well, and the projects that you want to do turn out better.
